HELP! I did something terribly wrong regarding Indiana Taxes?

kellygirl asked:

I own a wholesale import company. I sell to retailers. I do not sell retail…I sell to retailers. When I just started out 2 years ago, I applied for an Indiana Tax id number. I did this in case I was ever to do retail in the way of craft shows in Indiana. I reside in Michigan and conduct my wholesale business in Michigan. I received a collection letter regarding unpaid taxes for the state of Indiana, owing $88,000.00.

I have never done business in the state of Indiana, nor do I collect sales tax. Someone help! I did something wrong, and now I can’t function. My entire business hasen’t even made this dollar amount. I opened this letter on Friday, 6pm, after their office was closed. I haven’t slept b/c I have been so worried. What step should I take next?

I do not work or live in either state, but I am sure you can go to an H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt, other tax preparation company or any CPA and they will be able to help you out for a small fee.
I wish you the best of luck. I know how hard this time of year is.

Your tax preparer should be able to help you with this. Don’t lose sleep over it.
